As a Ground Support Equipment Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting inspections and maintenance on ground support equipment utilized in aviation operations.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling ground support machinery.
  • Refueling and servicing ground support equipment with necessary fluids.
  • Diagnosing issues using diagnostic tools and relevant manuals.
  • Assembling and constructing mechanical components as per specifications.
  • Inspecting engines, machines, and transmissions, performing diagnostic tests to identify operational issues.
  • Executing repairs to ensure maximum reliability of equipment.
  • Performing comprehensive maintenance on machinery and systems.
  • Applying lubricants and cleaning machinery components.
  • Replenishing fluids and parts for engines and machinery.
  • Advising users on proper maintenance and preventive measures for machinery.
  • Maintaining logs of work performed and reporting any issues encountered.
  • Completing necessary paperwork related to ground support equipment.

Key Responsibilities

The following tasks are essential to the role, in addition to those outlined above. The work may be conducted in various weather conditions, including rain, extreme temperatures, and exposure to jet engine fumes, dust, and noise. Duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors, near stationary and moving aircraft.

  • Regularly lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Reading, writing, and fluently communicating in English.
  • Understanding and following instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Composing routine business correspondence.
  • Effectively presenting information in small group settings and one-on-one interactions.
  • Addressing problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Applying common sense to execute detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Performing basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Possessing strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and other systems and their components.
  • Demonstrating proficiency with hand tools and precision measurement instruments.
  • Adhering to established procedures and reading blueprints and instructions.
  • Committing to health and safety guidelines.
  • Exhibiting strong communication skills.
  • Exhibiting problem-solving capabilities.
  • Maintaining good physical strength and stamina.
Qualifications

To succeed in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to fulfill essential job functions.

  • High School diploma or GED, along with one (1) year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug tests, and maintain eligibility for an airport security badge, as well as being insurable under company policies.
  • Legal authorization to work in the country of employment.
  • Prior experience with ground support equipment or heavy machinery is preferred.
  • Possession of personal tools is required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Certification from a vocational institution or completion of an apprenticeship is a significant advantage.
  • Preferred certification (ASE) is a plus.

Compensation varies based on several factors, including skill sets, education, shift worked, responsibilities, seniority, geographical market, merit, output, productivity, prior training or experience, and travel requirements. The pay range for this position is $38.50 per hour.
