As a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting inspections and performing maintenance on ground support equipment utilized in aviation operations.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling ground support machinery.
  • Checking and servicing equipment with necessary fluids such as fuel, oil, water, and hydraulic fluid.
  • Diagnosing issues using diagnostic tools and relevant manuals.
  • Assembling and constructing mechanical components as per specifications.
  • Inspecting engines, machinery, and transmissions, and executing diagnostic tests to identify functionality concerns.
  • Executing repairs with a focus on ensuring maximum reliability.
  • Performing comprehensive maintenance on machinery, systems, and equipment.
  • Applying lubricants and cleaning machinery components.
  • Replenishing fluids and parts for engines and machinery.
  • Providing guidance on proper maintenance and preventive measures to users of machinery or vehicles.
  • Maintaining logs of work performed and reporting on any issues encountered.
  • Completing required GSE documentation.

Key Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are essential to the role, in addition to those outlined above. Certain tasks may be performed in various weather conditions, including precipitation, extreme temperatures, and exposure to jet engine fumes, dust, and noise. Duties will be conducted both indoors and outdoors, near stationary and moving aircraft.

  • Frequently lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Reading, writing, and fluently communicating in English.
  • Understanding and comprehending instructions, brief correspondence, and memos.
  • Writing routine business correspondence.
  • Effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group settings to clients, supervisors, and colleagues.
  • Addressing problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Applying common sense to execute detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions.
  • Performing basic arithmetic operations in various units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Possessing excellent knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical, and other systems and their components.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in using various hand tools and precision measurement instruments.
  • Following established procedures and practices, as well as reading instructions and blueprints.
  • Exhibiting a strong commitment to health and safety protocols.
  • Displaying effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrating problem-solving capabilities.
  • Maintaining good physical strength and stamina.
Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED, along with one (1) year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug tests, and maintain eligibility for an airport security badge, while being insurable under the company's insurance policies.
  • Legal authorization to work in the country of employment.
  • Preferred experience with GSE or heavy equipment.
  • Possession of personal tools is required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Certification from a vocational school or completion of an apprenticeship is a definite advantage.
  • Preferred valid certification (ASE).

Compensation varies based on several factors, including skill sets, education, shift worked, responsibilities, seniority, geographical market, merit, output, productivity, prior training or experience, and travel. The pay range for this position is $38.50 per hour.
