We are seeking a Staff Environmental Geologist or Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with mid- and senior-level project managers and provide critical technical support in the assessment and remediation of potential environmental hazards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor field explorations and construction projects.
  • Document field conditions, write field reports, and participate in report production.
  • Regulatory reporting/monitoring/record keeping.
  • Research literature and historical information.
  • Complete data analysis and calculations with supervision.
  • May participate in project management tasks such as project budgeting and proposal writing.
  • May handle small projects or assist with tasks on larger projects to develop project management skills.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:

GSI offers a hybrid work schedule to our staff with flexible work hours. The ideal candidate will be available to work in the Portland office a minimum of two days per week. Project deadlines may require working long hours from time-to-time.

Approximately 50% of time will be spent traveling for field work and meetings. Travel will typically be conducted within an approximately two-hour drive, although at times may be further away. Overnight stay may be required.

Fieldwork activities may include exposure to various environmental conditions, including inclement weather, extreme temperatures, rugged terrain, and potential exposure to hazardous materials. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and required for field activities to ensure safety and compliance with regulatory standards.

Fieldwork activities may involve lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and bending, stooping, and walking over uneven terrain.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Ability to obtain 40-hr OSHA HAZWOPER certification (paid by GSI).
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in geology, environmental engineering, or related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 0 to 3 years of applicable experience.
