Position Overview:
This role involves critical and technical responsibilities in the development and oversight of a thorough safety program, including inspections, modifications to facilities, and employee training aimed at minimizing accidents.
Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Chemical, Industrial, or Safety Engineering, or a closely related field, along with two (2) years of full-time professional experience in safety inspections or loss prevention. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree along with four (4) years of full-time experience in Safety Inspection or Loss Prevention is acceptable.
- It is essential for the hiring agency to verify the educational qualifications claimed by applicants prior to appointment. Selected candidates must present original documentation of their credentials before commencing employment.
All relevant prior experience will be evaluated for qualification; however, only related experience acquired within the last ten (10) years will be credited in the training and experience assessment.

Domicile Requirements:

The hiring department will conduct interviews of qualified candidates before initiating a criminal background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of this investigation, and a criminal history does not automatically disqualify a candidate.
Application Process:

Working Test Period:
The standard working test (probation) period for most positions is six months, which may be extended to a maximum of one year at the request of the appointing authority.
Substance Abuse Testing:
The City of New Orleans implements a comprehensive substance abuse testing program. Candidates for certain positions may be required to undergo pre-employment substance abuse screening.
Important Notes:
Applicants with a driver's license should carry it for identification purposes during all examination phases.
Veterans Preference:
Veterans may receive additional credit on original entrance examinations if claimed as outlined on the Veterans Preference claim form.
Experience Credit:
Credit for unpaid work will not be granted unless specified in the job announcement. Partial credit may be awarded for related part-time employment.
Employment Verification:
