We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer Senior to join our team at Birdon America, Inc. in New Orleans, LA or Bayou La Batre, AL. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of electrical systems for marine applications.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the interviewing, onboarding, and training of assigned team members.
- Collaborate with team members to identify roadblocks and remove barriers, escalating unresolved issues to the Systems Design Manager and fellow team leads.
- Monitor and control design contractual commitments to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and contract terms.
- Partner with the Weight Manager to monitor and control system weight to meet design targets.
- Approve Engineering Change Notifications to release design data.
- Implement Engineering Change Requests while maintaining compliance with contractual requirements.
- Develop engineering deliverables in accordance with engineering processes, ensuring safe and fit-for-purpose designs.
- Present material associated with System Requirements Review (SRR), System Design Review (SDR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Detailed/Critical Design Review (DDR/CDR).
- Coordinate with sub-contractors and vendors to ensure timely receipt of deliverables and compliance with requirements.
- Develop NX 3D models and associated 2D drawings/schematics in accordance with company, industry, and project standards.
- Release drawings into Teamcenter system following company workflow.
- Create engineering reports to demonstrate compliance with project requirements.
- Partner with quality to troubleshoot installation issues, determine root cause, and recommend solutions.
- Create product illustrated parts diagrams and write product manuals.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the department by creating work instructions for best practices and mentoring/training junior engineers/designers.
- Develop electrical power generation, C5i, and power distribution systems for marine applications.
- Produce electrical plant load analysis along with wire sizing and component protection in accordance with ABS standards.
- 10+ years of experience in navigation, communication, video, power generation, and control & alarm systems.
- Experience leading small teams of engineers.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- Judgment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to solve problems and possess analytical skills.
- Experience with government procurement and contracting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and team facilitation skills.
- Ability to work under limited supervision.
- Must work well in a team environment.
- Confidentiality, tact, and discretion when dealing with people.
- Detail-oriented while able to continuously improve efficiency.
