POSITION OVERVIEW:


Under general supervision, you will assist the public at the service counter by processing permit applications, business licenses, and animal licenses, while issuing permits in accordance with established protocols. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary, as detailed in the Essential Functions section below.

SALARY RANGE:
$52,704 - $70,632 annually (salary amount is effective July 2024)
Currently, there is one (1) full-time vacancy available.

The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future Permit Administration Specialist vacancies in other departments.

Based on the information provided, a limited number of candidates who meet the qualifications will be invited to participate in the selection process, which may include application review, written examination, practical exercises, and interviews.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist and respond to public inquiries via phone or at the service counter.
- Process forms, permit applications, and plans necessary for issuing business and animal licenses and planning and building permits.
- Review permit applications for compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Issue permits for minor projects or assist professional staff with determinations and permit issuance.
- Calculate fees according to established schedules.
- Prepare and organize monthly reports of permits issued, fees collected, and project types for management and external agencies.
- Maintain inventory of office supplies and requisition additional materials as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school or its equivalent is required. A minimum of one year of experience in permit issuance within a municipal department, or two years of progressively responsible clerical experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may also be considered.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
A valid Class C California Driver's License is required. Revocation of the license during employment may result in disciplinary action.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Understanding of building and zoning codes.
- Familiarity with planning processes, regulations, and ordinances.
- Knowledge of business and animal license policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

ABILITIES:
- Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations.
- Proficient in basic mathematical computations.
- Capable of maintaining organized files and records.
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
