Position Overview

The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-site community health organization dedicated to providing comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco. Our center focuses on delivering primary health care services, including adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV, and homeless services.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the Clinic Assistant role. Please note: this position requires bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish. This role reports to the Director of Programs & HIV Services and is classified as a Full-Time, Non-Exempt position with a starting hourly rate of $25.16 to $27.04.


Primary Responsibilities:
The Clinic Assistant is responsible for supporting the effective delivery of primary health care and HIV services to patients. Key duties include:

  • Assisting with reception tasks during clinic hours.
  • Monitoring patient flow from the front desk to the back office for those accessing HIV Health Services.
  • Supporting quality assurance activities related to clinical excellence.
  • Acting as a liaison between Clinica Esperanza staff and Adult Medicine staff.
  • Assisting the Shotwell Clinic Manager in ensuring the efficient delivery of primary health care services while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Serving as a backup Medical Assistant in the HIV Clinic.

Key Functions:

Administrative Duties:

  • Coordinate the scheduling of clinical staff in collaboration with the Shotwell Clinic Manager and other directors.
  • Oversee clinic flow to enhance team productivity and ensure a positive experience for both staff and patients.
  • Generate and monitor team productivity reports and access data regularly.
  • Assist in supervising front desk staff and Medical Assistants.
  • Ensure adequate staff coverage in assigned reception areas in coordination with the Shotwell Clinic Manager.
  • Address health insurance and payment inquiries for patients, referring them to the appropriate department as needed.
  • Assist in resolving informal patient complaints and implement service recovery plans.
  • Monitor the condition of clinic equipment and facilities, notifying the Shotwell Clinic Manager of any necessary repairs.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Clinical Lead and management.

Front Office/Back Office Responsibilities:

  • Provide backup support to the front desk as needed, including checking eligibility and demographic information.
  • Assist in back office tasks, such as taking vital signs and documenting patient history in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Prepare and administer point-of-care tests, including HbA1c and glucose tests.
  • Prepare examination rooms for procedures with all necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Sterilize equipment using the autoclave and maintain cleanliness as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree; Associate's degree with relevant experience may be considered.
  • Medical Assistant Certification is required.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is essential.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical setting; experience in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in data management.
  • Reception experience is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work professionally and ethically in multicultural environments, maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
  • Sensitivity to issues related to HIV/AIDS, LGBTQIA, homelessness, immigration, mental health, and substance use.
