Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at the Newport News Sheriff's Office. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, enforcing laws and regulations, and providing public safety services to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Intake and Classification: Process new inmates, conduct searches, and inspect personal articles and clothing.
  • Supervision and Security: Supervise inmates, maintain security and control, and prevent escapes and injuries.
  • Court Services: Serve as bailiff/security in courts, collect and transport inmates, and maintain order and security.
  • Civil Process: Execute civil court orders, serve writs and legal documents, and seize property as directed by the courts.
  • Extraditions and Transportation: Transport inmates safely and securely to designated locations.
  • Community Outreach: Participate in outreach programs to engage with the community and promote public safety.
Requirements
  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Background Check: Requires an acceptable background check and credit check.
  • Firearm Requirements: Must meet federal, state, and local requirements to carry a firearm.
  • Education: Must have a High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
