About the Role

Honda is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Advanced Safety Controls Division as a Passive Safety Development Engineer. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and integrating safety control systems software into our vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage vehicle development projects related to Passive Safety and Restraint Systems control specifications, ensuring timely completion and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review and develop functional requirements for electronic controls systems, including Controller Area Network interface, Self-Diagnostic, and Failsafe Detection.
  • Validate Passive Safety and Restraint Systems software function through standard requirement testing on bench and in-vehicle proving grounds.
  • Validate electrical hardware through EMC testing and work with suppliers to address any issues.
  • Ensure compliance with functional safety requirements (ISO 26262) and coordinate with technical experts for approval.
  • Lead the integration of software functions into vehicles and verify their functionality.
  • Negotiate requirements with collaborating controls teams and coordinate with design functions to ensure correct control specifications are applied to Passive Safety and Restraint Systems drawings.
  • Coordinate with factory associates during build phases to ensure controls meet required specifications and lead chassis software/control issue resolution across Sales, Engineering, and Design.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Co-op/intern experience preferred.
  • Understanding of electrical components, EMC testing, and requirements management.
  • Experience with control specification development, function validation, diagnostics, and CAN structures.
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 standard for functional safety.
