Role Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist plays a pivotal role in overseeing a broad spectrum of essential HR functions. Collaborating closely with the Director of Human Resources, this position is integral to the daily operations, strategic planning, organization, and management of effective HR processes that enhance the experience for faculty, administrators, and support staff.

Key duties encompass engaging with employees across all levels, including faculty, staff, administrators, and board members, within a dynamic environment. The HR Generalist must exhibit adaptability, initiative, and creativity to navigate complex situations and daily operational demands. Upholding a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality is vital, alongside delivering exceptional client service and clear communication, both written and verbal. The ideal candidate will also showcase strong decision-making capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively while fostering a professional workplace atmosphere.

This role reports directly to the Director of Human Resources and requires the ability to excel in a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment while maintaining efficiency and composure.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the complete recruitment cycle, including position requisitions, interview scheduling, phone screenings, and guiding users through the Talent Management System.
  • Assist the Director of HR in conducting comprehensive and impartial interviews to assess candidate qualifications and fit for available roles.
  • Work in partnership with the HR Specialist to enhance employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Act as the primary contact for worker's compensation reporting and file management, collaborating closely with the Director of HR.
  • Support the Director of HR with unemployment claims, employment verifications, and relevant state system entries.
  • Collaborate with the Payroll Manager to provide guidance to employees regarding timekeeping inquiries.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and timely submission of the organization's annual EEO-1 report to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
  • Coordinate special events for employee recognition, including Milestone Awards and Wellness Fairs.
  • Participate in the Safety Committee and ensure adherence to applicable employment laws and regulations.
  • Efficiently manage the calendar and arrange meetings for key Board Committees.
  • Assist Senior Staff in preparing Board Reports, ensuring accurate signatures, distribution, and record-keeping.
  • Support the Business Office in effective communication with Trustees, senior staff, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success in an HR department, with SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience providing executive-level administrative support.
  • Familiarity with the culture and mission of boarding schools.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of best practices for interviewing and evaluating candidates.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and professional communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and focus on error prevention.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a customer service orientation.
  • Understanding of payroll and benefits administration best practices.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word, along with database management.
