Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Sales Associate to join our team at the Navy Exchange. As a Sales Associate, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, selling general merchandise, and working as part of a sales team to exceed customer expectations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Sales and Customer Service: Greet and engage customers in conversation to provide sales-related assistance, assist in the selection of merchandise, and suggest additional items to complement customer selections.
  • Food and Beverage Convenience Bar Operations: Assist in the opening and closing of the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, prepare and display merchandise, replenish goods, and clean stations and equipment as necessary.
  • Merchandise Knowledge: Become knowledgeable about merchandise, including proper set-up, use, care, characteristics, price points, and warranty coverage.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Communicate product-related information to customers knowledgeably and legibly, interact with customers and coworkers in a friendly and professional manner, and assist and support sales team members as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Ensure assigned areas are fully stocked and merchandise is neatly arranged, communicate with supervisors and store managers regarding stock additions, deletions, fast and slow-selling merchandise, customer preferences, and needs.
  • Meetings and Feedback: Participate in department meetings, actively seek to exchange ideas regarding improvements in customer service, job performance, and achievement of store department sales goals.
  • Cash Handling and Transactions: Complete sales transactions efficiently, thank customers for their patronage, and perform cash register transactions accurately and procedurally.
  • Customer Engagement: Advise customers of upcoming sales events and services available throughout the Navy Exchange, offer customers the opportunity to open a NEXCARD account, and inform customers of NEXCARD account benefits.
  • Store Policies and Procedures: Become knowledgeable in NEX store policies, including Richter Merchandising System functions and operation, merchandise returns, price matching, check cashing, and rain checks.
  • Loss Prevention and Safety: Maintain a high level of awareness in assigned areas, offer excellent customer service to all patrons, internal and external, to deter theft, and report any incidents or concerns to supervisors.
  • Physical Demands: Lift up to 25 lbs. as it relates to job duties, including assisting customers, lifting merchandise, and stocking sales areas as necessary.

Requirements: No experience required, high school graduate or equivalent preferred.
