Junior Scientific Programmer

The Institute of Health Informatics at the University of Minnesota is seeking a highly skilled junior scientific programmer/data scientist to join Dr. Sisi Ma's research team. As a Researcher 3 classification position, this role will focus on computational causal discovery and predictive modeling theory and method development, with applications in biomedicine and health.
Key Responsibilities- Construct datasets from various data sources for research purposes.
- Design and implement data processing and analysis infrastructure to ensure data integrity and security.
- Implement machine learning, statistical, data-mining, bioinformatics/clinical informatics algorithms.
- Design, setup, and run computational experiments to evaluate and benchmark innovative machine learning algorithms.
- Develop and modify software and demonstrations.
- Build documentation for all software, code, and experiments.
- Write or help prepare technical reports and/or publications.
- Communicate and present analytical results to customers, scientists, and clinicians.
- B.A./B.S. in Computer Science/Math/Statistics/Physics/Informatics or related technical field and two (2) years of related experience or a combination of education and experience in a research or technical environment to equal six (2) years.
- Experience with Matlab or Python or R.
- Experience with SQL or other database technology.
- Experience writing code for sophisticated computer programs independently.
- Experience with basic machine learning or statistical methods.
- Effective/detailed strong communication skills.
