Job Overview

The Simulator Solutions Architect (SSA) at AVT Simulation is responsible for crafting and supervising the creation of innovative technical solutions. This role emphasizes the integration of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products, reused AVT components, and custom-built elements, encompassing both hardware and software aspects. The SSA provides essential technical oversight, leadership, and mentorship to Systems Engineers, Hardware Engineers, and Software Engineers throughout the entire lifecycle of proposal, design, development, testing, and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate requirements and apply standard engineering practices to devise technical solutions, prioritizing cost-effective reuse and existing technologies before recommending custom components.
  2. Create detailed specifications, design documents, and architecture diagrams that articulate the system's components, interfaces, and functionalities.
  3. Facilitate technical discussions, present proposals, and offer strategic recommendations to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  4. Guide and provide technical leadership to development teams during implementation, ensuring compliance with architectural standards and best practices.
  5. Mentor junior architects and technical personnel, offering support and guidance as necessary.
  6. Collaborate with cybersecurity experts to guarantee that systems and applications adhere to established security and compliance protocols.
  7. Assess existing systems and applications to pinpoint areas for enhancement and modernization.
  8. Investigate and analyze emerging technologies and trends to evaluate their potential influence on current and future solution designs.
  9. Advise the Project Manager on technical decisions and associated risks.
  10. Thrive in a dynamic development environment, managing multiple competing tasks and priorities effectively.
  11. Contribute as a project team member, providing assistance in software programming, hardware selection, or hardware/software integration as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a related field such as Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or Information Technology.
  • Proven experience in the development and delivery of application hardware/software.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., C, C++, C#) and hardware/software engineering design patterns.
  • Experience in building to requirements and synthesizing technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with hardware/software interfaces.
  • Experience in developing Government Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs) related to technical solutions.
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools is essential.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience; 15+ years preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Occasional standing, walking, sitting, and the ability to lift or move office supplies up to 10 pounds may be required.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficient in computer systems (Linux, Windows) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with software requirements gathering and modeling tools.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Set (Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, Bitbucket) and programming languages (C, C++, C#, Java) is preferred.

Security Clearance:

An active Secret clearance or eligibility to obtain one is required.
