Position Overview
The Lead Climate Policy Associate collaborates with the Center's Mitigation Program Director and Associate Director to undertake advanced research and writing tasks, manage intricate projects, engage with external audiences, and coordinate outreach efforts with various partners and contractors. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading initiatives involving policy and legal research, analysis, and writing on critical energy and emissions mitigation subjects.
- Representing the Center at conferences, discussions, events, and in media engagements.
- Overseeing the development and upkeep of content for the Center's online platform.
- Supervising and coordinating the efforts of research assistants, external contractors, and staff.
- Functioning as a proactive team member with leadership duties.
- Identifying and pursuing opportunities for funding and outreach.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Mitigation Program Director of the Georgetown Climate Center, the Lead Climate Policy Associate engages with senior officials at local, state, and federal levels; faculty and senior administration at Georgetown; external partners; funders; media representatives; and students. Additionally, this role involves supervising the work of research assistants, students, and external consultants.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or a J.D. or equivalent professional experience
- A minimum of three years' experience in environmental law and policy, climate change policy, or a related discipline
- Exceptional research and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Strong interpersonal abilities, professionalism, and sound judgment
- Experience managing complex projects with multiple internal and external collaborators
- Experience working with or for local, state, tribal, or federal government entities
Preferred Qualifications
We particularly welcome candidates with experience and legal expertise in federal and state power sector policies and regulations and/or energy infrastructure siting.

Compensation:
The anticipated salary range for this position is between $54,000 and $100,493.33. Compensation is determined by various factors, including the candidate's qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs.
