JOB SUMMARY
This role supports the transportation manager/director in overseeing the operations related to deliveries and backhauls. Responsibilities include training and managing transportation department staff, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a safe and secure transportation environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees daily operations and safety of transportation staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and food safety standards.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, maintaining accurate electronic logs.
  • Manages labor hours and supplies within budget constraints.
  • Creates work schedules, including additional shifts as necessary.
  • Facilitates training for new hires and cross-training for existing staff.
  • Directs the effective use of company resources to support delivery operations.
  • Coordinates necessary repairs with relevant departments.
  • Analyzes delivery processes and productivity, recommending efficiency improvements and cost-saving measures.
  • Interprets and enforces company policies and procedures consistently.
  • Collaborates with warehouse and customer service teams to resolve delivery issues.
  • Engages with customers to address concerns and evaluate delivery challenges.
  • Maintains positive relations with staff through regular meetings and open communication.
  • Monitors team morale and implements suggestions for enhancing employee engagement.
  • Works with safety management to conduct training, observations, and safety inspections.
  • Recommends corrective actions as necessary.
  • Handles management tasks such as staff selection, development, and performance evaluations.
  • Adheres to assigned schedules and demonstrates reliable attendance.
  • Performs duties of supervised associates and other related tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Preferred: 2 or 4-year degree in business management, supply chain management, or a related field.
Experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in transportation or related training.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License required.
  • Preferred: Certificate in DOT regulations training.
Professional Skills

Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, DOT rules, and standard operating procedures.

Ability to make independent decisions in alignment with company policies.

Skilled in facilitating discussions and meetings effectively.

Capable of solving practical problems and interpreting various instructions.

Consistent application of policies in a timely and objective manner.

Ability to work in a disciplined manner, following established procedures and regulations.

Capacity to manage stress in a deadline-driven environment.

Proficient in learning technology software and programs.

Ability to read, comprehend, write, and speak English proficiently.

Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations.

Physical Demand
The physical demands required for this position include:
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and use hands for various tasks.
  • Occasionally required to lift and move up to 100 pounds and push/pull up to 350 pounds.
