Investment Associate, Illiquid Strategy

About the Role:

The Office of Investments at The Ohio State University is seeking a highly skilled Investment Associate to support the group's efforts in generating strong risk-adjusted returns for the Long-Term Investment Pool/Endowment. As part of a small and collaborative team, the Investment Associate will work closely with the Senior Director of Investments to manage illiquid investment allocations, including developing and recommending portfolio construction strategies, sourcing new investment opportunities, analyzing and evaluating investment opportunities, and monitoring investment activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and recommend portfolio construction strategies to optimize returns and manage risk
  • Sourcing new investment opportunities, including partnership investments and co-investments
  • Analyze and evaluate investment opportunities, including due diligence and negotiation
  • Monitor investment activities and participate in advisory committees
  • Lead and participate in meetings with external managers and evaluate their performance using rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Provide guidance to Investments Analysts and assist in preparing materials for presentations to the Board of Trustees and other University-affiliated groups
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in management, finance, business, or a related field
  • Minimum of six (6) years of investment management experience acquired through private markets investing (LP role, co-investment, principal investor, investment banking, legal or other applicable discipline)
  • Strong computing and quantitative skills
  • Extensive knowledge of financial and investment theory and practice, including quantitative methods
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to make detailed presentations to both internal and external investment entities
  • Ability to be an integral team member and thrive in a team environment while demonstrating leadership and initiative
  • Proficiency in MS Office and skilled in analytics and modeling
  • Experienced working with relational databases and manager track record and performance and services
  • Advanced abilities with Microsoft Excel
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, commitment to ethical behavior and professionalism
  • Ability and willingness to travel globally
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA, CFA or CAIA
  • Eight to twelve (8-12) years of relevant experience
