POSITION SUMMARY

The National Board of Boilers & Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) is in search of a highly skilled, self-driven, and adaptable Senior Staff Engineer / Inservice Instructor with expertise in NBIS and ASME Code to engage in on-site activities. This role entails the creation of educational materials and delivering instruction to students in a classroom environment; collaborating with the curriculum team to develop and author content for digital training programs; and offering technical assistance in specialized areas as required. The ideal candidate will exhibit the ability to communicate effectively in small group settings, possess strong time-management capabilities, and prioritize tasks across various projects. This position demands exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to convey information through written, oral, and visual means; demonstrate proficient presentation, facilitation, and inquiry skills; and cultivate an environment conducive to learning and performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the instructional team to identify technical content for assigned courses and seminars, aligning with relevant bodies of knowledge and industry requirements.
  • Create instructional materials (slides, supporting documents, etc.) necessary for teaching designated course sessions.
  • Conduct technical reviews of training materials as assigned, leveraging experience and code knowledge.
  • Partner with the Assessments Coordinator to formulate and validate questions for National Board homework, quizzes, and examinations.
  • Develop online training content; collaborate with curriculum writers and designers to oversee the technical aspects of the online course from inception to completion.
  • Provide technical support to National Board members and staff; liaise with the Technical Department to address external technical inquiries.
  • Contribute technical articles for National Board publications upon request.
  • Deliver technical presentations at programs sponsored by National Board members, as requested.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of inservice experience in boiler and pressure vessel inspection, design, manufacturing/fabrication, quality programs, etc.

KNOWLEDGE OF

  • The National Board Inspection Code.
  • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and other standards recognized by the National Board; inspection techniques; boiler and pressure vessel design, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair; all design processes; all welding and fabrication methods and principles used in Code construction.
  • Application of codes and standards recognized by the National Board and its member jurisdictions.
  • Engineering principles and methodologies.
  • Safety principles and practices.
