Job Overview

The Kitchen Sanitation Associate is responsible for executing all tasks related to dishwashing and ensuring the overall cleanliness of the culinary workspace. This role is essential in maintaining a positive image for Whole Foods Market by delivering courteous, friendly, and efficient service to both customers and Team Members consistently. All duties must align with team and store Standard Operating Procedures, and Team Members should be prepared to undertake responsibilities associated with other roles as needed. The position aims to uphold WFM's core values and objectives, support various programs and initiatives, and ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, including Food Safety and departmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Efficiently washes, rinses, and sanitizes dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and small wares.
  • Ensures the cleanliness of floors, mats, drains, walls, and shelves within the kitchen area.
  • Assists with kitchen deliveries, ensuring proper storage, organization, and rotation of products.
  • Arrives punctually at the work station, well-groomed, dressed appropriately, and ready to perform; fulfills all scheduled shifts and participates in required training and meetings.
  • Provides exceptional customer service, promptly addressing customer needs and demonstrating suggestive selling techniques; answers phones and pages in a courteous manner.
  • Maximizes sales potential through effective procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising products.
  • Adheres to established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation standards, and safe work practices.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, ensuring equipment meets WFM cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Completes opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signage and pricing; reports safety hazards and violations immediately.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership.

Experience Requirements

  • No prior retail experience is necessary.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • In an 8-hour workday: standing/walking for 6-8 hours.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work involves bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching motions.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures: below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in both wet and dry conditions.
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • May require the use of ladders.

The wage range for this position is $25.40 Hourly, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers a comprehensive benefits package, which may include health insurance, retirement plan benefits, eligibility for a store discount, paid time off, and access to other benefit programs. Eligibility for benefits is determined under the terms of the applicable Whole Benefits plan at the time of hire.
