Job Summary

As a Software Engineering Manager at Wolters Kluwer, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating activities related to the design, development, and implementation of software operating systems for products. You will oversee the development of architectural, software engineering, and test strategies and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise agile software development teams in delivering software products and components to support multi-tier SaaS solutions on time with high-quality delivery.
  • Design and build products that delight customers utilizing Agile methodologies, primarily SCRUM, while fostering a culture of engagement with an environment conducive to innovation and career development.
  • Work with engineering teams, architects, quality assurance analysts, technical leadership, and product owners to ensure alignment to business requirements.
  • Participate actively and provide leadership in the full SDLC including requirements analysis, solution design, software engineering, quality engineering, and technical documentation.
  • Evaluate new tools and technologies to continuously improve web application development practices.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Responsible for designing and implementing quality up-front initiatives.
  • Work in partnership with Product Management to achieve product delivery goals.
  • Oversee and participate in development and implementation of designs and approve designs.
  • Responsible for shipping high-quality products on time and on budget. Manage projects and the Agile teams working on them.
  • Approve project initiatives.
  • Responsible for reviewing cost/benefit analyses of design alternatives and collaborate with technical staff before selecting final design.
  • Ensure the identification and implementation of improvements to the development process.
  • Responsible for improving efficiencies and reducing costs through adherence and enhancements to project management and/or Agile methodologies, if established for the department.
  • Conduct coaching and performance reviews, recommend candidates for promotion, and manage performance improvement plans as necessary.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent software engineering degree or experience.
  • Minimum 7-8 years of relevant experience working within product software engineering.
  • Experience actively utilizing Artificial Intelligence to improve both the application development process and software product user experience is a strong plus.
  • Managing Agile, particularly SCRUM teams who develop on the full end-to-end Microsoft stack.
  • Experience leading teams or projects.
  • Experience designing and implementing quality up-front initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills. Communicate in a professional manner when interacting with less-experienced staff, peers, senior staff, and internal or external customers.
  • Communicate project plans, goals, and status to other work units.
  • Communicate departmental and project strategies within the area of influence.
  • Channel strategic ideas and other input from staff to senior levels.
  • Write project justification documents, including capital expenditure requests, and present proposals to senior staff.
  • Prepare and conduct presentations for various user areas and staff levels, including senior management.
  • Coach less-experienced staff members in a mentor-type relationship.
  • Influence the goals and plans of other work units.
  • Work with other work units and act together toward common goals.
