Job Summary

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will develop, support, and maintain various software applications and solutions in support of the University's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer and execute the full lifecycle of complex software solutions, including requirements gathering, research, design, prototyping, development, maintenance, documentation, and other related activities.
  • Design and develop applications and integrations according to specifications using appropriate programming languages, tools, development methodologies, and adhering to best practice standards.
  • Use appropriate algorithms, logic, and data structures to solve problems and promote reusability.
  • Write well-organized, documented, and readable code.
  • Use appropriate version control practices.
  • Develop test plans and ensure that code is well tested, covering expected cases and exceptions.
  • Work constructively and collaboratively to resolve problems.
  • Analyze performance and function of code and take action to correct deficiencies.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining departmental coding standards and participate in peer code reviews.
  • Understand business processes and translate them to software designs and specifications.
  • Lead implementation on assigned projects.
  • Assist in developing and enhancing the development toolset and core capabilities.
  • Mentor and coach staff, fostering growth and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Four (4) years of software development experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in the following technologies and concepts: PL/SQL (stored procedures), JavaScript, JavaScript-based web frameworks (e.g., Vue, React), Python, ORMs and data modeling APIs, SOAP, and REST.
  • Experience within a higher-education environment.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience with web-oriented and service-oriented architectures and technologies including but not limited to REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, SSL, OpenID, SAML, OAuth, JWT.
  • Experience with distributed version control systems, preferably Git.
  • Experience with continuous integration systems.

  • Able to design and develop software that meets technical specifications to satisfy business requirements.
  • Able to accurately estimate development times and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, seeking assistance when significant deviations are proposed or when unprecedented problems arise.
  • Able to anticipate problems and proactively develop appropriate solutions.
  • Able to appropriately assess and communicate risks, benefits, and alternatives.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines.
