About this role

The Controls Engineering Supervisor is a key team leader responsible for managing and training a team of Controls Engineers. This role involves mentoring new hires, verifying work, and participating in regular manpower meetings to distribute workload and discuss backlog and plan for future department needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and specification of complete building automation systems, including controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware.
  • Creation of sequences of operation for the control of all building systems.
  • Documentation of the BAS design and revision control of resultant documents.
  • Site-specific configuration of the WebCTRL system using SiteBuilder.
  • Programming of control algorithms, including third-party integration using Eikon.
  • Development of graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems using Eikon and ViewBuilder.
  • Testing of programming and interfaces prior to deployment.
  • Final documentation of the building automation system incorporating all changes made since issuance of the submittal.
  • Adherence to project requirements and company and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.
  • Technical support during the selling process to ensure sales representatives accurately address customer requirements and propose the best possible solutions.
  • Coordination of deliverable dates from Project Managers with Engineers and establishment of milestones to meet these requirements.
  • Leadership, documentation, and participation in yearly and semi-yearly performance reviews for all Engineers.
  • Clear communication and proactive expectation setting with manager and project teams both internal and external.
  • Maintenance and advisement of customer and company design and programming standards, including parts and practices.
  • Adherence to safety standards and high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
  • Interviewing potential candidates for open Engineering positions.
  • Adherence to ethics standards and exemplification of the Carrier code of ethics.

Specific Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Timesheet review, approval, and tracking.
  • Expense report and approval.
  • First-level mentorship and training.
  • Performance of software and hardware quality control (QA/QC) reviews for all direct reports.
  • Project status management.
  • Ensuring deadlines are met or updated as necessary.
  • Ensuring tasks are completed.
  • Ensuring estimated remaining time is updated.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of HVAC controls or Building Automation experience OR Associate Degree with 6+ years of HVAC controls or Building Automation experience OR High School Diploma or GED with 8+ years of HVAC controls or Building Automation experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in an Engineering or Construction discipline.
  • Experience in HVAC controls, Building Automation, or related industry.
  • Proficient with primary functions of building automation system software and associated engineering tools, Automated Logic suites preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of complex Automated Logic software, hardware, peripherals, add-ons, and services.
  • Proficient with third-party communication protocols used in building automation, such as BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, N2, etc.
  • Understanding of Enterprise IP networks and Microsoft Visio, or similar software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Visio (other CAD software acceptable).
  • Proficient with written sequences of operations, diagrammatic depictions of systems.
  • Able to translate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Able to provide direction and guidance to other team members and lead project teams.
  • Well-organized and able to balance multiple concurrent priorities by communicating and negotiating due dates and deliverables.
  • Able to condense complex technical information into a comprehensive and clear set of design documents in a way that is easily understood and followed by project teams.
  • Strong aptitude for problem-solving even when troubleshooting remotely.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 20% of average workweek, including air travel, overnight hotel stays, and unexpected travel when required.
  • Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment over 8 feet above grade, and capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
