Bridge Design Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Bridge Design Engineer to join our team at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson. As a key member of our bridge engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing new and rehabilitation structures, including highway bridges, retaining walls, and load rating projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze bridge structures using industry-standard software and tools
  • Develop and prepare construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Maintain knowledge of state DOT and local agency design standards and criteria
  • Lead and mentor team members through the design process
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited engineering program
  • 4-10 years' experience in bridge design and analysis, including plan development
  • Engineer-in-training certification
  • Proficient in discipline-specific design software, including LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LPile, MDX, CSiBridge, Merlin DASH, and Bentley Microstation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer License
  • Related bridge design experience

Working Conditions:

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Field work is required on occasion, where work may be conducted outside in various weather conditions. Some lifting (up to 25lbs) may be required as needed.
