POSITION TITLE: Postdoctoral Associate
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Department of Neuroscience at Scripps Research is seeking qualified candidates for Postdoctoral Associate roles in the innovative lab of Dr. Chen Ran. Our research focuses on elucidating the neural mechanisms underlying interoception, which involves how the brain interprets signals from internal organs to create our internal sensory experiences. Utilizing cutting-edge in vivo functional imaging, electrophysiological techniques, mouse genetics, manipulation of neuronal activity, behavioral studies, and computational methods, our lab aims to uncover how the nervous system perceives various stimuli, including mechanical, chemical, and thermal signals, to generate sensations such as hunger, satiety, nausea, and visceral pain. The insights gained from our research will contribute to a deeper understanding of how the brain encodes and processes information, potentially leading to novel therapeutic strategies for conditions like hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and more. The Ran lab and the Doris Neurosciences Center offer a dynamic, collaborative, and results-oriented environment. The lifestyle in San Diego is exceptional, featuring a mild climate year-round and convenient access to diverse natural landscapes. The successful candidate will be expected to present research findings at lab meetings and scientific conferences, prepare manuscripts for publication, mentor junior lab members, and pursue external fellowship opportunities. REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree. Candidates nearing completion of their doctoral studies may be considered with the Principal Investigator's approval. Ideal candidates will be self-driven, detail-oriented, and possess a robust background in neurobiology, cellular and molecular biology, engineering, computational biology, immunology, or related disciplines. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is particularly desirable:
- Microscopy and imaging analysis
- Physiology
- Systems neuroscience
- Optogenetics and behavioral analysis
