The Head of Content and Engagement Strategy for the Better World Campaign (BWC) is tasked with cultivating audiences and enhancing interaction across BWC's diverse communication platforms and initiatives, showcasing the significance of the UN to a U.S. demographic. This role requires leveraging data to formulate and guide a cohesive digital communication strategy that encompasses paid, earned, shared, and owned media, while considering BWC's varied stakeholders, including legislators, policy makers, civil society, and grassroots advocates. Collaborating with the Communications Manager, the Head will generate content across multiple channels and campaigns. This position involves working closely with BWC members and the United Nations Foundation's (UNF) Global Content and Engagement (GCE) team, overseeing the daily operations of both traditional and digital communications for the campaign.
Essential Functions
- Partner with the Executive Director of Communications to design and execute strategic communication plans that promote BWC's advocacy and public policy goals, while enhancing the visibility of the brand and its leadership.
- Produce and curate a variety of content including statements, speeches, blog entries, campaigns, social media posts, and website features.
- Supervise the Communications Manager at BWC.
- Utilize data from BWC's platforms (website analytics, newsletters, events, social media, etc.) to set objectives and timelines that expand BWC's outreach and engagement with key audiences, sharing these metrics with the broader team.
- Propose innovations, systems, processes, and tools that optimize resources and attract individuals to BWC's initiatives.
- Maintain a well-organized media contact list, monitoring key journalists.
- Address media inquiries, track influencers, publications, and trends relevant to BWC's interests.
- Establish productive relationships with key communications and public affairs professionals at the UN, State Department, Congress, and the White House.
- Oversee external vendors such as website teams, freelance editors, photographers, and videographers.
- Identify opportunities to collaborate with communications staffers on Capitol Hill and within the Administration.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree in public policy, communications, or related fields preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, public relations, advocacy, or journalism, with a proven record of expanding digital audiences across various platforms.
- Skilled in content creation with excellent written, verbal, and presentation abilities; video skills are a plus.
- Strong understanding of analytics and metrics to inform a digital strategy that integrates various components into a cohesive and impactful approach.
- A proactive communicator experienced in advocacy environments such as Congress, the Administration, or K Street.
- Familiarity with foreign policy issues, particularly those related to the UN, is preferred.
- A sharp awareness of news dynamics, with experience in media relations, briefings, engagement, and outreach.
- Effective planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks amidst complex issues, requests, and deadlines.
- A collaborative team player who is comfortable working in small groups and sharing knowledge across teams.
- Proficient in self-managing projects, with a strong attention to detail and deadlines.
