Role Summary:

The Medical Billing Collections Team Lead is tasked with overseeing a team of medical collectors. Responsibilities include facilitating regular team meetings, delivering performance evaluations, and ensuring that collection objectives are achieved. This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of revenue cycle operations and the capability to mentor and support team members effectively.

Key Duties:

  • Remain updated on modifications in billing practices, insurance protocols, and applicable regulations.
  • Initiate and manage follow-ups on unpaid or denied claims with insurance providers.
  • Investigate, appeal, and resolve outstanding insurance claims.
  • Consistently follow up on all claims, ensuring the resolution of billing discrepancies according to established procedures.
  • Address inquiries and correspondence from insurance entities.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to the designated team.
  • Assist the Supervisor with auditing, production analysis, and team support.
  • Manage escalated issues from team members through various communication channels.
  • Conduct weekly team meetings or individual sessions to assess performance and training requirements.
  • Efficiently manage claim volumes within corporate timelines.
  • Identify, rectify, and sustain enhancements in production, workflow, and training.
  • Submit weekly performance reports to management.
  • Achieve established performance targets in efficiency, accuracy, quality, and team satisfaction.
  • Adhere to all departmental processes and procedures as directed by management.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the department manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in insurance follow-up and collections.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical billing, revenue cycle management, appeals, and customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks and implement processes effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive demeanor, team-oriented, with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
  • Proven success in managing appeals in a high-volume claims environment.
  • Experience with commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and other government payers.
  • Familiarity with EPower and Centricity is preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Typing speed of 45-60 WPM.
  • Prior leadership training or experience is required.
