As a Coding Specialist, you will work independently under minimal supervision to meticulously review clinical documentation and diagnostic results. Your role will be crucial in validating and ensuring accurate procedural and diagnostic coding of professional services provided by clinicians, in compliance with established documentation and coding guidelines for all patient care services.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring that provider and/or diagnostic services documented in medical records are accurately coded.
- Verifying that coded services are supported by appropriate documentation, including medical necessity.

Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to Revenue Cycle policies and procedures.
- Manage assigned task lists, work queues, and reports efficiently.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of third-party payer reimbursements and managed care contracts.
- Familiarize yourself with physician billing, accounts receivable, and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Utilize and analyze all components of Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and Explanation of Payments (EOP).
- Accurately track and document daily activities and production metrics.
- Complete and document all activities or communications on accounts accurately.
- Consistently meet departmental production standards as set by management.
- Participate in special projects as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
A High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
Experience:
Completion of a formal coding program is preferred, with credentials from AHIMA, CCA, CCS, or AAPC being advantageous. A minimum of two (2) years of practical coding experience or five (5) years in a physician billing Revenue Cycle or Central Business Office, demonstrating proficiency in ICD-9-CM/ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding systems is required. Experience in Surgery Coding is essential.
Licensure/Certification:
Certification as a Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required by law.
