We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Inpatient Coder to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. As a Clinical Coding Expert, you will be responsible for accurately coding hospital inpatient accounts for reimbursement, research, statistics, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Coding and Abstracting: Analyze and code complex inpatient cases, including trauma, rehab, neurology, and critical care, utilizing ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS nomenclature.
- Documentation Review: Utilize critical thinking to analyze and evaluate documentation issues, consulting with medical and clinical staff as needed.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with senior coders and other coding staff to share coding information and provide coding advice on complex cases.
- Productivity and Quality: Maintain coding quality accuracy rate of 90% and productivity rate of 95%.
- Compliance and Auditing: Communicate with auditing teams to discuss audit findings and ensure compliance with AHIMA standards of ethical coding and coding compliance guidelines.
- Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent, formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training, and a minimum of three years ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS coding and abstracting experience.
- Certifications: One of the following required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC).
