Caltrans Highway Maintenance Supervisor

Job Overview
Under the guidance of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for operating light vehicles and equipment that necessitate a Class B California Commercial Driver's License with a tank endorsement, as well as Category 2 equipment utilized by the designated unit. The role may involve acting as a Supervisor during the absence of the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor and may require collaboration with other supervisors or units based on operational demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with crew members to plan and organize the installation, removal, or maintenance of stencils and striping on state-maintained roadways.
- Conduct field training and may oversee daily and weekly timekeeping, along with ordering necessary supplies.
- Enforce safety and health protocols as outlined in the Department's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
- Assist in the maintenance and inspection of stencils at all locations on State highways.
Working Conditions
Position(s) are located in Los Angeles County, with multiple vacancies potentially filled from this recruitment. The role involves working in a variety of sometimes extreme conditions, including temperatures ranging from 32 to 120 degrees, as well as exposure to strong winds, rain, sleet, and snow. The standard workweek typically consists of 5/8-hour days, with the scheduling determined by Region Management. Night shifts may be required to meet operational needs, with appropriate notice provided.
Safety Requirements
Personal safety measures include, but are not limited to:
- Wearing appropriate, sturdy footwear.
- Utilizing long or short-sleeved shirts provided by Caltrans or wearing a safety vest over non-safety shirts.
- Donning long pants; shorts or cutoffs are not permitted.
- Wearing provided safety gear such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves when necessary.
Special Requirements
- Successful completion of a Drug Screening prior to hiring.
- Possession of a valid unrestricted Class B commercial driver's license with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement.
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If meeting Minimum Qualifications through education, unofficial transcripts or diplomas must be included for verification.
