Job Overview

Under the guidance of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for operating light vehicles and machinery that necessitate a Class B California Commercial Driver's License with a tank endorsement, as well as Category 2 equipment utilized by the designated unit. The role may involve acting as a Supervisor in the absence of the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor and may require collaboration with other supervisors or units as operational demands dictate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with crew members to plan and organize the installation, removal, or maintenance of stencils and striping on state-maintained roadways.
  • Conduct field training and oversee daily and weekly timekeeping and supply ordering as necessary.
  • Enforce safety and health policies as outlined in the Department's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
  • Assist in stencil maintenance activities, including inspection and layout, across all locations on State highways.

Application Process

Applications will be reviewed, and only the most qualified candidates will be invited for an interview. Eligibility for hire may be determined by examination scores. Candidates new to state civil service employment must be on the state examination list to qualify for these positions.

Working Conditions

This position is located in a region that may experience extreme weather conditions, including high temperatures, cold, strong winds, and precipitation. Employees may be required to work night shifts or overtime during emergencies or special projects as needed.

Safety Requirements

Personal safety measures include:

  • Wearing appropriate footwear in good condition.
  • Utilizing long or short-sleeved shirts provided by Caltrans or wearing a safety vest over non-safety attire.
  • Wearing long pants; shorts or cutoffs are not permitted.
  • Using provided safety gear such as hard hats, safety glasses, and hearing protection when required.

Special Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Drug Screening prior to employment.
  • Possession of a valid unrestricted Class B commercial driver's license with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to the interview and/or appointment. If meeting Minimum Qualifications through education, unofficial transcripts or diplomas must be provided for verification.
