Job Overview

This role is primarily accountable, under the guidance of the Aquatic Director, for aiding in the strategizing, organizing, directing, budgeting, and assessment of programs within the designated area, aligning with the mission, objectives, and policies of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional service to members by surpassing their expectations.
  • Engage in active listening to cultivate relationships, comprehend individual aspirations, and proactively assist in achieving those objectives.
  • Oversee the recruitment, scheduling, and management of all lifeguard and instructor personnel in collaboration with the Aquatic Director.
  • Collaborate with the Aquatic Director to formulate, supervise, and assess the Aquatics budget.
  • Assist in the planning and scheduling of program facilities to ensure seamless daily operations.
  • Review staff, class, and pool schedules for optimal efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Aquatic Director to implement instructional swim programs.
  • Provide teaching and lifeguarding services as required, up to 20 hours weekly.
  • Be available to assist with registrations and respond to inquiries from members and program participants.
  • Facilitate ongoing training and development for aquatic personnel.
  • In partnership with the Aquatic Director, ensure compliance with all safety and quality training, drills, and documentation.
  • Share responsibility for the maintenance and care of facilities and related equipment.
  • Assist in procuring necessary equipment and Aquatic/First Aid supplies.
  • Maintain accurate records essential for control, evaluation, and reporting to committees and the Aquatics Director.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with community organizations, businesses, schools, and other resources.
  • Support the execution of special events related to the Aquatic Department and the organization as a whole.
  • Regularly submit articles to local publications regarding aquatic programs and events.
  • Document aquatic statistics for each session and manage program evaluations.
  • Participate in staff meetings as a member of the branch management team.
  • Stay current with required and voluntary training to foster personal and professional growth.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must be at least 21 years old, with YMCA Lifeguarding certification; if certified by Red Cross, transition to YMCA certification within six months of hire.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years in managing and instructing a variety of Aquatics programs and pool maintenance.
  • Experience in supervising staff and developing schedules, alongside strong member and staff relations skills.
  • Familiarity with YMCA trends and developments in the aquatic sector, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to interact physically and verbally with members and staff.
  • Spend half of work hours in direct service, either guarding or instructing.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Moderate noise levels are typical in the work environment.
  • Availability for weekend and evening work is expected, with flexibility for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel may be required for training or meetings.
