Position Overview:
  • The role entails addressing the unique educational requirements of clients at the residential facility, focusing on students with special education needs and those with 504 plans.
  • The educator will create lesson plans, assign tasks to support staff, and report progress to the Program Coordinator.
  • This position will engage in treatment planning for residents and implement the behavioral strategies in place.
  • It is essential to meet or exceed the standards set by the Department of Children’s Services and the Department of Education to maintain educational certification.
  • The educator will serve as the Educational Liaison, responsible for completing educational reports and communicating with local school representatives as per the Interdepartmental Agreement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This role will be conducted within a residential care setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job description is not exhaustive; additional responsibilities may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or management as necessary. 1. Address the Educational Needs of Clients:

a. Curriculum Development
  • Deliver 6.5 hours of approved curriculum daily, including assignments for students to earn credits towards graduation.
  • Grade and document student performance, providing progress reports to relevant stakeholders as required by educational standards.
  • Complete transcripts documenting credits towards graduation promptly after course completion.
  • Prepare study materials for GED preparation.
  • Facilitate transportation for clients to GED practice and testing.
  • Provide special education services and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) within the first month of enrollment, reviewing them regularly thereafter.
b. Classroom Management
  • Establish a structured learning environment.
  • Monitor and implement necessary modifications based on individual client assessments and adherence to IEPs and 504 plans.
2. Compliance with Educational Regulations:

a. Adhere to DCS/DOE standards.
  • Assist in timely completion of school approval documentation and meet all regulatory deadlines.
  • Engage with DCS/DOE personnel for consultations and oversight.
  • Oversee Wellness and Life Skills integration into the daily schedule.
  • Maintain accurate school records according to documentation standards.
3. Management of Title I Funding:

a. Oversee the utilization of Title I resources.
  • Complete necessary documentation for each client at intake and update upon discharge.
  • Communicate any inventory issues with the appropriate coordinators.
b. Maintain compliance with Title I documentation standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of Title I reports within specified timelines.
  • Participate in the strategic use of Title I funds and provide recommendations for future allocations.
4. Coordination of Educational Activities:

a. Provide academic and behavioral progress reports.
  • Deliver comprehensive reports to treatment teams and guardians based on weekly feedback.
  • Communicate educational needs and concerns to supervisors regularly.
b. Align classroom activities with treatment services.
  • Ensure classroom rules are consistent with program expectations.
  • Support transitions between program components.
5. Supervision of Educational Staff:

a. Offer guidance and training to staff.
  • Conduct training sessions during staff meetings and upon request.
  • Assist program counselors in enforcing classroom rules.
6. Facilitate Community Integration:
  • Notify schools of client withdrawals promptly.
  • Request and manage school records efficiently.
  • Ensure the transfer of educational documentation upon client discharge.
7. Professional Communication:

a. Maintain professionalism in all communications.
  • Document all communications with stakeholders clearly and professionally.
  • Engage in calm and constructive verbal interactions with clients and staff.
8. Professional Development:

a. Participate in required training sessions.
  • Maintain licensure through ongoing education and training.
  • Attend agency meetings and seek additional training opportunities.
COMPENSATION:

The starting salary for this position ranges from $50,112 to $57,846 annually, depending on experience and education.

SCHEDULE:
  • This role requires daily in-person attendance.
TRAVEL:
  • Ability to transport clients as needed.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Basic computer skills are necessary for documentation and communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/License:
  • Valid teaching certificate in Tennessee.
  • Current special education certification.
  • Experience in a clinical or educational setting.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred.
Experience/Knowledge:
  • Experience working with children, youth, and families.
  • Preferred experience in a residential setting or relevant internship.
  • Familiarity with educational standards and regulations.
Physical Requirements:
  • Certification in verbal and physical de-escalation techniques is required.
  • Ability to transport clients as necessary.
  • Capability to lead and manage classroom dynamics effectively.
