KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Collaborates with the Principal/Supervisor and engages with school personnel, educators, students, parents, vendors, and the community to coordinate activities under the guidance of administration or special education instructors.
● Trained or willing to be trained in nonviolent crisis intervention methods.
● Effectively utilizes verbal and nonverbal strategies to prevent or de-escalate challenging behaviors in students.
● Demonstrates consistent assertive communication techniques, including expressing empathy, addressing conflict behavior, and providing rectifying statements during behavioral conflicts.
● Maintains student groups during emergencies or when a teacher is temporarily absent.
● Provides educational support to students with disabilities; assists in the preparation, modification, and application of instructional materials tailored to individual student needs; aids in the development and execution of Individual Education Programs (IEPs); supports data collection and monitoring of students' physical, communication, social/emotional, and educational development; employs specialized educational strategies to meet academic requirements.
● Offers physical assistance, which may include toileting, positioning, lifting, carrying, feeding, personal hygiene, or other support as specified by individual student needs outlined in their IEPs.
● Supervises, monitors, or substitutes for classes during short-term teacher absences.
● Aids teachers and interacts with students during various classroom activities; prepares instructional materials for educational use; assists with instructional and assistive technology.
● Participates in data collection and progress monitoring to assess student performance and skill levels.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
● Adheres to established safety procedures for student welfare.
● Performs clerical tasks to support teaching activities and school operations.
● Models appropriate social and professional behaviors for students during community experiences or work-based learning.
● Accompanies students on field trips during the school day.
● Engages in tasks requiring reading, writing, numeracy, and effective communication skills, utilizing various equipment and technology to ensure compliance with educational standards and implement student IEPs.
● Attends staff meetings, parent conferences, IEP-Team meetings, or other required gatherings.
● Complies with established safety protocols for assigned areas.
● Upholds the Teacher Code of Ethics as mandated by state law.
● Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
● Exceptional customer service abilities.
● Strong verbal and written communication skills.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Effective time management and prioritization skills.
● Capacity to learn and apply various teaching methodologies.
● Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and with students who have diverse disabilities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
● High school diploma (or GED) required.
● Relevant experience to provide services in the specific role upon appropriate training.
● Alternative qualifications may be considered as deemed appropriate by the Principal.
● Preferred: One year of experience working with students with disabilities.
● Must possess one of the following prior to starting:
o 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours;
o An Associate's degree or higher;
o Passing score on the PRAXIS for Parapro Exam.
