Position Overview:
  • This role is dedicated to addressing the unique educational requirements of clients at the residential facility, including those with special needs and 504 plans.
  • The Instructor will create educational plans, assign tasks to support staff, and communicate progress to the Program Coordinator.
  • This position will engage in treatment planning for residents and implement the behavioral strategies in place.
  • It is essential to meet or exceed the standards set by the Department of Children’s Services and the Department of Education to uphold school certification.
  • The role will serve as the Educational Liaison, necessitating the completion of educational reports and communication with local school representatives as per the interdepartmental agreement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The position will be based in a residential care facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Address the Educational Needs of Clients:

a. Curriculum Development
  • Deliver 6.5 hours of approved curriculum each school day, including daily assignments for students to earn credits towards graduation.
  • Assess and document student progress, providing reports to therapists, parents, and caseworkers as required by educational standards.
  • Complete transcripts reflecting credits earned within two weeks of course completion.
  • Facilitate study guides for GED preparation.
  • Transport clients to GED practice tests and official examinations as needed.
  • Provide Special Education services for identified clients and develop an initial Individualized Education Program (IEP) within the first month, reviewing it every 45 days thereafter.
b. Classroom Management
  • Establish a structured classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Monitor individual client needs for modifications and implement them as indicated by initial assessments and adherence to IEPs and 504 plans.
2. Compliance with DCS/DOE Regulations:

a. Adhere to all DCS/DOE requirements.
  • Assist in timely completion of all necessary school approval documentation.
  • Participate in meetings and maintain communication with DCS/DOE personnel for oversight and consultation.
  • Supervise and coordinate wellness and life skills activities during the school day.
  • Maintain comprehensive school records according to documentation standards.
3. Management of Title I/TACC Regulations:

a. Oversee the utilization of Title I funding.
  • Complete necessary documentation for each client at intake and update upon discharge.
  • Communicate any inventory issues with the appropriate coordinators to ensure accurate records.
b. Maintain compliance with Title I documentation standards.
  • Assist in preparing Title I reports by established deadlines.
  • Engage in the effective use of Title I funds and provide recommendations for future allocations.
4. Coordination of School Activities with Treatment Services:

a. Provide academic and behavioral progress reports.
  • Share academic and behavioral updates with the treatment team and guardians as required.
  • Offer weekly feedback to supervisors regarding educational needs and concerns.
b. Design classes that support treatment objectives.
  • Ensure classroom rules align with program guidelines.
  • Assist in transitions between different program components.
5. Supervision of Educational Staff:

a. Provide guidance and training to staff.
  • Conduct training sessions during staff meetings and upon request.
  • Support program counselors in enforcing classroom rules.
6. Liaison with School Systems for Community Integration:
  • Notify schools of client withdrawals promptly.
  • Request and obtain school records within the specified timeframe.
  • Facilitate the transfer of educational records upon client discharge to ensure smooth re-enrollment.
7. Professionalism:

a. Maintain professional communication.
  • Document all communications related to client treatment effectively.
  • Engage in calm and professional interactions with clients, staff, and stakeholders.
8. Staff Development:

a. Participate in required training sessions.
  • Maintain licensure through annual in-service training.
  • Attend all mandated agency trainings and meetings.
  • Seek additional training opportunities to enhance professional skills.
COMPENSATION:

The starting salary for this role is competitive and commensurate with experience and education.

SCHEDULE:
  • This position requires daily in-person attendance.
TRAVEL:
  • Ability to transport clients as necessary.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Basic computer skills are essential for documentation and communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/License:
  • Valid teaching certificate in the state of Tennessee.
  • Current special education certification.
  • Experience in a clinical or educational setting.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred.
Experience/Knowledge:
  • Experience working with children, youth, and families.
  • Preferred experience in a residential setting or relevant internship.
  • Familiarity with educational regulations and standards.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to implement de-escalation techniques and manage physical interventions as needed.
  • Capability to transport clients to various appointments and activities.
  • Strong leadership skills and sound judgment in a therapeutic environment.
