Instructional Support Specialist III Substitute Pool

Job Summary:
The Instructional Support Specialist III Substitute Pool is a critical role in the El Monte City School District, supporting the educational needs of students with special needs. As a member of our team, you will work closely with teachers, specialists, and parents to develop and implement individualized educational plans, providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers and specialists in developing and implementing instructional plans, materials, and assessments to enhance student learning experiences.
- Work with small groups and individual students on special subjects and exercises, adapting instruction to meet the needs of students with special needs.
- Prepare and maintain instructional aids, exercises, and materials to support the curriculum.
- Assist with in-service training sessions, preparing and presenting materials to support teacher professional development.
- Confers with teachers, specialists, and parents to develop and evaluate individual and group educational goals and objectives.
- Administer assessment instruments, score tests, and keep records for teachers, including those on computerized student information and grading systems.
- Assist with training other instructional support specialists and school personnel to administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests.
- Monitor classroom activities when a teacher is absent, overseeing students, administering assignments, and performing general clerical tasks.
- Develop and use incentives as positive reinforcement, exercising constant supervision of children and assessing the need for discipline.
- Report student academic and behavior progress and performance to teachers, documenting student progress and charting test scores and curriculum-based measurements.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent, 12 college credit hours that are degree eligible, passing of a competency exam, and two years of classroom experience working with children with special needs.
- Specific experience in a special day class or similar environment may substitute for higher education requirements.
- Incumbents having additional college coursework may use it to substitute for some experience.
- Salary grade advancement is as follows: 12 semester units = grade 11; 24 semester units = grade 12; 48 semester units = grade 13.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bilingual/Biliterate Spanish.
- Experience working with Moderate to Severe Special Needs students.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors with some, yet infrequent exposure to health and safety considerations.
