Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team at the City of Austin. This is a critical role that requires a strong background in occupational safety and health, with a focus on developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, investigations, and audits to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Provide advice and counsel to management and employees on occupational safety issues and decisions.
  • Develop and conduct training programs for employees on occupational safety and health topics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement safety initiatives and projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
  • Four years of experience in occupational health and safety, with a focus on developing and implementing safety programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations governing occupational safety and health.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on achieving results and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in developing and implementing occupational health and safety programs for a large organization.
  • Certification in one or more core safety training programs, such as the Smith System driver training program.
  • Experience using shared user platforms for work processes, such as Cority, SiteDocs, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience designing and leading projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Professional certification(s) related to occupational health and safety, such as the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation.
