Job Summary

The Occupational Health Services Technician is a vital member of the Austin Health and Safety Council team, responsible for administering respirator fit testing, audiometric testing, drug and alcohol testing, and pulmonary function testing. This role requires a strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures, as well as excellent communication and customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all testing equipment, including respirator fit machines, pulmonary function machines, audiometry machines, and breath alcohol machines.
  • Calibrate all equipment at the beginning of each day, and perform additional calibrations as necessary.
  • Inspect and repair all equipment as needed, and conduct periodic surveys to identify and correct safety and hygiene hazards.
  • Administer respirator fit tests in compliance with CFR 1910.134 Respiratory Protection Standard, and administer all drug and alcohol collections in compliance with 49 CFR Part 40 standards.
  • Maintain and develop customer relationships through prompt and professional communication.
  • Thoroughly disinfect and inspect each respirator upon completion of each test, and ensure all customer data and paperwork is kept confidential.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant safety topics, software, and training technology, and maintain certifications in CAOHC, NIOSH, BAT, and DOT.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment with non-flexible deadlines, and to adapt to changing environments and procedures.
  • Ability to practice discretion and maintain confidentiality, and to communicate and interact with all levels of organizations.
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements, and to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, and to speak, read, and write English fluently.
