Builder Trainee Role

If you aspire to build a career with a leading name in the homebuilding industry, this opportunity may align with your goals. We are on the lookout for candidates to fill the Builder Trainee position within our residential operations.

This is a full-time, entry-level position that offers a pathway for professional development and career progression within a nationally recognized homebuilder.

As a Builder Trainee, you will gain hands-on experience while supporting an experienced Builder on-site in high-volume communities or across multiple locations, all within a structured training framework.

The Builder Trainee Program is meticulously designed to equip Trainees with the skills necessary for future Builder roles at Drees Homes. Participants will be immersed in every aspect of the construction journey, from customer plan agreements to the first-year warranty process. Training will encompass shadowing, classroom instruction, and practical on-the-job experiences through a comprehensive program comprising nine modules.

Duties Include:

  • Monitoring the progress and quality of all construction projects
  • Establishing and upholding high performance standards for subcontractors and suppliers
  • Managing material usage to control costs
  • Proactively addressing customer inquiries regarding the building process
  • Actively participating in subdivision and model upkeep
  • Adhering to OSHA regulations and other safety protocols
  • Creating punch lists for framing, mechanical, and insulation tasks
  • Utilizing internal software/systems to track job completion progress
  • Performing additional duties as required

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to assist with scheduling, cost management, and quality assurance
  • Self-motivated with a high energy level and a positive outlook
  • Capability to hold subcontractors accountable for their performance
  • Strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and customer-centric approach
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and adaptable to change
  • Excellent organizational abilities
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication with both internal and external stakeholders

Educational Background:

  • Preferred 2 or 4-year degree in Construction Management or a related discipline
  • Relevant construction experience (this may include internships or short-term roles during education)
  • Basic computer proficiency; experience with an iPad is advantageous
