Key Responsibilities

Builder Trainee Opportunity

If you are eager to embark on a career with a leading name in the homebuilding sector, this opportunity may be the perfect fit for you. We are looking for candidates to fill the role of Builder Trainee within our residential operations.

This is a full-time, entry-level position designed for professional development and career progression within a nationally recognized homebuilder.

As a Builder Trainee, you will gain hands-on experience while supporting an experienced Builder on-site in high-volume communities or across multiple locations, all within a structured training framework.

The Builder Trainee Program aims to equip and prepare Trainees for future Builder roles at Drees Homes. Participants will be exposed to every aspect of the construction process, from the initial customer plan signing to the first year's warranty program. Training will encompass shadowing, classroom instruction, and on-the-job training through a comprehensive program comprising nine modules.

Duties Include:

  • Supervising the progress and quality of all construction projects
  • Establishing and upholding high performance standards for subcontractors and suppliers
  • Managing material usage to control costs
  • Proactively addressing customer inquiries regarding the building process
  • Actively participating in subdivision and model maintenance
  • Adhering to OSHA regulations and other safety protocols
  • Creating punch lists for framing, mechanical, and insulation
  • Utilizing internal software/systems to track job completion progress
  • Performing additional duties as required

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Ability to assist with scheduling, cost management, and quality assurance
  • Self-motivated with a high energy level and a positive outlook
  • Capability to hold subcontractors accountable for their work
  • Strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and customer-centric approach
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and adaptable to change
  • Excellent organizational abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Preferred 2 or 4-year degree in Construction Management or a related discipline
  • Experience in construction (this may include internships or short-term positions during education)
  • Basic computer proficiency; experience with an iPad is advantageous
