Key Responsibilities

Builder Trainee Opportunity

If you are looking to embark on a career with a respected leader in the homebuilding sector, this position may be ideal for you. We are currently seeking candidates for the role of Builder Trainee within our residential operations.

This is a full-time, entry-level position that offers significant potential for professional development and career progression within a nationally recognized homebuilder.

As a Builder Trainee, you will gain valuable experience by assisting a seasoned Builder on-site in high-volume communities or across multiple locations, all while participating in a structured training program.

The Builder Trainee Program is designed to equip Trainees with the knowledge and skills necessary for future Builder roles at Drees Homes. Trainees will be exposed to all aspects of the construction process, from customer plan approvals to the first year's warranty program. Training will encompass shadowing, classroom instruction, and hands-on experience through a formalized program consisting of nine modules.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the progress and quality of all construction projects
  • Establish and uphold high performance standards for subcontractors and suppliers
  • Manage material usage to control costs
  • Proactively address customer inquiries regarding the building process
  • Participate actively in subdivision and model maintenance
  • Adhere to OSHA regulations and other safety protocols
  • Create punch lists for framing, mechanical, and insulation tasks
  • Utilize internal software to track job completion progress
  • Perform additional duties as required

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to assist with scheduling, cost management, and quality assurance
  • Self-motivated with a high energy level and a positive attitude
  • Capability to hold subcontractors accountable for their work
  • Strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and customer-centric approach
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and adaptable to change
  • Excellent organizational abilities
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication with both internal and external stakeholders

Requirements:

  • 2 or 4-year degree in Construction Management or a related discipline preferred
  • Experience in construction (this may include internships or short-term positions during education)
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with iPads is advantageous
