We are seeking a skilled Family Care Coordinator to join our team at Sierra Donor Services.

About the Role

This position will work with organ donor families, hospital personnel, physicians, and other team members from SDS to navigate the donation process for saving lives through organ and tissue donation. The ideal candidate will have experience in communicating with families, counseling, bereavement, and/or crisis intervention, as well as knowledge of medical and legal principles related to authorization, donor evaluation, and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine family dynamics and assess their understanding of the patient's prognosis when initiating the donation discussion.
  • Initiate the donation discussion and authorization process for potential organ and tissue donor families prior to, during, and after death declaration, providing detailed information required for informed authorization.
  • Respond independently or in conjunction with assigned staff to all appropriate hospital referrals within designated timeframes outlined by policy and procedure.
  • Communicate effectively with attending physicians and healthcare teams to establish rapport and ensure a collaborative approach for the donation discussion and authorization process.
  • Obtain authorization for donation per UAGA and verify necessary medical and legal documentation.
  • Collaborate with hospital staff and attending physicians to provide accurate and timely information regarding the patient's clinical course, maintaining communication regarding the potential donor family's understanding of the prognosis and serving as a family advocate to the healthcare team as needed.
  • Provide education to hospital staff on authorization, family care processes, and donation procedures.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required, with 2-4 years of healthcare experience in family support, counseling, bereavement, or crisis intervention.
  • Exceptional teamwork, communication, and conflict management skills are essential.
  • A valid driver's license with the ability to pass MVR underwriting requirements is also necessary.
Compensation Package

The salary for this role is $68,000 - $90,000 annually, depending on experience. This includes up to 176 hours of PTO and 72 hours of sick time in the first year, as well as competitive benefits such as two medical plans, dental and vision coverage, a 403(b) plan with matching contributions, and wellness program access.
