Role Overview: The Operating Engineer will primarily concentrate on the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility systems and equipment. Candidates are expected to exhibit technical proficiency in one specific area (Electrical, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) while being versatile in other disciplines to effectively carry out daily and weekly tasks.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility equipment at client locations.
  • Manage and operate (1) Solar Turbines, (1) Heat Recovery Steam Generators, and (2) High Pressure Boilers.
  • Conduct maintenance and monitor repairs for Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Assume responsibility for facility services, preventive maintenance, inventory management, and technical proficiency.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of tools and materials for facility maintenance.
  • Record operational readings and make necessary adjustments for optimal equipment performance.
  • Analyze monthly client service requests to identify and resolve recurring operational issues.
  • Regularly assess vendors and suppliers for quality and competitive pricing.
  • Prepare and submit purchase orders as needed.
  • Verify delivery accuracy regarding quantity, pricing, and description.
  • Conduct periodic inventory checks of tools and instruments.
  • Monitor the quality and cost of maintenance work performed by external contractors.
  • Ensure minimal disruption during work performed in client spaces, followed by thorough clean-up.
  • Assist with event setup and teardown, including electrical and audio-visual coordination.
  • Support the operations team in building and equipment maintenance as directed.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, management, colleagues, and the operations team regarding project timelines and workload priorities.
  • Utilize CMMS systems for all tasks and work order management.
  • Perform general interior maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols for hazardous material handling.
  • Comply with safety procedures, maintaining cleanliness and safety in all work areas.
  • Recognize, assess, and mitigate risks, including conducting Hazard Assessments as necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with state and county regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and understand schematics.
  • Attend required work and safety meetings.
  • This position is campus-based and requires availability for call-in work.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

This is a union position with a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Completion of a vocational or trade program is preferred.
  • Two years of experience as an Operating Engineer in a Life Sciences or Medical facility is advantageous.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Blue Seal Operating Engineer License is required, with the attainment of a Red Seal Operating Engineer License within one year of employment.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess system operations and troubleshoot issues.
  • Proficient in computer usage and software applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, especially concerning energized work and PPE.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks as required.
  • Willingness to work in various environmental conditions.

Compensation:

The estimated total compensation range for this position is $95,000.00 annually. This range includes potential bonuses and is based on various factors such as education, experience, skills, and market data.
