Key Responsibilities: The Operating Engineer will focus on the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility systems and equipment. Candidates should exhibit technical proficiency in one primary area (Electrical, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) while being versatile in additional disciplines to effectively manage daily and weekly tasks.

Daily Activities Include:

  • Overseeing the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility equipment at client locations.
  • Operating and maintaining (1) Solar Turbines, (1) Heat Recovery Steam Generators, and (2) High Pressure Boilers.
  • Conducting maintenance and monitoring repairs across Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Managing facility services, preventative maintenance, inventory control, and technical proficiency.
  • Ensuring adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies while developing sources for necessary materials.
  • Recording operational readings and making adjustments to optimize equipment performance.
  • Analyzing monthly client service request summaries to identify and rectify recurring operational issues.
  • Evaluating vendors and suppliers regularly for quality and competitive pricing.
  • Preparing and submitting purchase order requests and verifying delivery accuracy.
  • Performing periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory.
  • Monitoring the quality and pricing of maintenance work conducted by external contractors.
  • Ensuring minimal disruption during work performed in client spaces, followed by thorough clean-up.
  • Assisting with event setup and teardown, including electrical and audio-visual coordination.
  • Supporting the operations team in building and equipment maintenance and repairs as directed.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, management, colleagues, and the operations team regarding project timelines and workload priorities.
  • Utilizing CMMS systems for work management and order tracking.
  • Performing general interior maintenance tasks such as hanging pictures, installing keyboard trays, and repairing office furniture.
  • Adhering to safety protocols for the storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Complying with all safety procedures and maintaining cleanliness in work areas.
  • Recognizing, assessing, and mitigating risks, including completing necessary Hazard Assessments.
  • Ensuring compliance with state and county regulations.
  • Reading and interpreting schematics.
  • Attending work and safety meetings as required.
  • This position is campus-based and requires availability for call-in work.
  • Performing any additional duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

This is a union position with a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Completion of a vocational or trade program is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as an Operating Engineer in a Life Sciences or Medical facility is advantageous.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Blue Seal Operating Engineer License is required, with the attainment of a Red Seal Operating Engineer License within one year of employment.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess system operations and troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • Proficiency in computer usage and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create, modify, and edit processes and reports.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safe work practices, particularly concerning energized work and PPE.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring climbing, bending, and working in various conditions.

Compensation:

The estimated total compensation range for this position is $95,000.00 annually, including any applicable bonuses.
