Position Overview

The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient management of medical supplies and equipment. This position involves overseeing inventory levels, facilitating patient education, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inventory Management: Maintain stock levels to meet operational needs and ensure timely processing of new shipments.
  • Auditing: Conduct regular audits to monitor inventory accuracy and address discrepancies.
  • Patient Interaction: Provide guidance to patients regarding the proper use of DME products and educate them on insurance coverage and financial responsibilities.
  • Documentation: Prepare and submit necessary documentation to the Billing Department, ensuring adherence to compliance requirements.
  • Preauthorization: Manage precertification and preauthorization processes as dictated by insurance agreements.
  • Defective Products: Handle returns of defective items and coordinate replacements with vendors.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the DME Program Manager to enhance program efficiency and resolve operational challenges.
  • Training: Provide on-the-job training for staff involved in DME distribution.
  • Travel: Occasionally travel between facilities as needed.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Athletic Training Certification, Ohio License, or Certified Orthotic Fitter is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or Health Sciences is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in an outpatient orthopedic environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, hear, see, and comprehend information.
  • Physical capability to stand, sit, walk, reach, and handle objects.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, pulling, pushing, and kneeling.
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises without limitations.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted, with an average lift of 15 lbs.
