About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Resident Services Assistant to join our team at the YWCA South Hampton Roads Emergency Shelter. Under the supervision of the Shelter Manager, this role will provide essential support services to victims of violence, including crisis intervention, information, and referrals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention and support to shelter clients
  • Conduct shelter orientations and provide education on the dynamics of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics, while adhering to confidentiality policies
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, forensic, and medical personnel to ensure client safety and well-being
  • Participate in ongoing training and education to enhance skills and knowledge
Requirements
  • Minimum 60 hours of college credits in psychology, social work, human services, or a related field
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities, mental health concerns, and chronic homelessness
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including spreadsheets
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with a non-judgmental attitude and ability to maintain confidentiality
