Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Resident Services Assistant to join our team at the YWCA South Hampton Roads Emergency Shelter. Under the general supervision of the Shelter Manager, this role will assist in providing basic need services to victims of violence, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, information, and referrals to shelter clients as requested.
  • Conduct shelter orientation services to ensure a smooth transition for guests.
  • Maintain shelter supplies, living spaces, and distribute donated items in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Deliver education on the dynamics of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking.
  • Collect and analyze statistical data to inform YWCA SHR staff.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to our Confidentiality policy.
  • Participate in ongoing training and education on interpersonal violence, community resources, and medical personnel.
  • Attend in-service training and staff meetings as scheduled.
Requirements
  • Minimum 60 hours of college credits in psychology, social work, human services, or a related field, or 2 years of related experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must complete YWCA SHR training programs.
  • Must pass a successful background check.
  • Skills and competencies include knowledge of sexual assault and domestic violence dynamics, experience working with persons with disabilities, mental health concerns, and chronic homelessness, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions

This position is located at the YWCA SHR Emergency Shelter, a 24-hour facility. Hours are available in 8-hour shifts, including weekends. The physical demands of this role include the ability to travel in varying weather conditions, use sensory skills to communicate and interact with others, and lift up to 60 pounds.

Compensation

This is a non-exempt part-time, hourly position with a pay range of $16-$17 per hour. Weekly hours vary, not to exceed 29 hours per week.
