About the Position

Under the supervision of the Shelter Manager, the Resident Services Assistant will provide support services to victims of violence at the YWCA South Hampton Roads Emergency Shelter. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating basic need services, conducting shelter orientations, and providing education on the dynamics of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention and information to shelter clients.
  • Conduct shelter orientations and stock shelter supplies.
  • Prepare food and distribute basic hygiene items to clients.
  • Provide client transportation and deliver food and hygiene items to emergency shelter hotel guests.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to the YWCA South Hampton Roads' Confidentiality policy.
  • Participate in on-going training and education regarding interpersonal violence, community resources, and medical personnel.
Requirements
  • Minimum high school diploma required; 2 years related experience preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age and complete the training programs of YWCA South Hampton Roads.
  • Must complete a successful background check and have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel in varying weather conditions and lift up to 60 pounds.
