Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Installation Manager, the Field Service Installation Technician is tasked with executing hands-on technical operations and overseeing the site installation of Ipsen furnaces. This role involves comprehending the prerequisites for installing Ipsen vacuum furnaces, working on-site to either independently complete the installation or collaborate with Ipsen field service personnel or contractors, coordinating resources, addressing customer requirements, and ensuring the effective and timely execution of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute primary tasks related to the installation of Ipsen vacuum furnaces, including bending conduit, pulling wire, terminating electrical connections, and installing piping (black pipe, copper, PVC) for process gas and cooling fluids.
  • Collaborate with contractors or other Ipsen field service personnel for rigging, millwright, piping, and electrical installation activities.
  • Monitor work for precision, ensuring quality checks are performed and troubleshooting issues as necessary, including addressing loose or missing fittings and poor wire connections.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, enforcing site safety requirements for Ipsen employees, contractors, vendors, and customer personnel, with a goal of zero accidents and lost time.
  • Review installation requirements prior to commencement and understand Ipsen's contractual obligations with the Installation Manager.
  • Manage the installation budget and utilize management tools to optimize costs while controlling lost time and overtime.
  • Assess contractor change order requests for validity in collaboration with the Installation Manager.
  • Maintain and oversee the installation schedule to enhance site performance.
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and leadership on-site to effectively represent Ipsen.
  • Resolve conflicts or challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Lead an on-site team effectively, delegating tasks and setting priorities.
  • Timely refer unresolved disputes to the Installation Manager.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings for customers and contractors as required in the absence of the Installation Manager.
  • Collect and share competitive intelligence with the Ipsen team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required; a Bachelor's degree in Business, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in a service or contractor organization with a proven track record of executing large and complex installations of capital equipment.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and lead effective and diverse teams.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and leadership capabilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of rigging, millwright, pipefitting, and electrical trades, as well as closed-loop cooling systems and welding, is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with safety policies and protocols; OSHA 30 training is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with contractors, customers, and vendors for successful installations.
  • Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read and interpret project drawings and schematics.
  • Willingness to travel up to 90% of the time, primarily domestically, with some potential for international travel.
