Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Installation Manager, the Field Service Installation Technician is tasked with executing hands-on technical operations and overseeing the site installation of Ipsen furnaces. This role involves comprehending the installation requirements for Ipsen vacuum furnaces, executing installations independently or collaboratively with Ipsen field service teams or contractors, managing resources, addressing customer needs, and ensuring the timely and efficient completion of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform primary installation tasks for Ipsen vacuum furnaces, including bending conduit, pulling wire, terminating electrical connections, and installing piping (black pipe, copper, PVC) for process gases and cooling fluids.
  • Collaborate with contractors and other Ipsen field service personnel on rigging, millwright, piping, and electrical installation activities.
  • Ensure the accuracy of work performed, conducting quality checks and troubleshooting issues as necessary, including addressing loose or missing fittings and poor wire connections.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and enforce site safety standards for Ipsen employees, contractors, vendors, and customer personnel, aiming for zero accidents and lost time.
  • Review installation requirements prior to commencement and understand Ipsen's contractual obligations with the Installation Manager.
  • Manage the installation budget effectively, utilizing management tools to minimize costs and control overtime.
  • Evaluate contractor change order requests for validity in collaboration with the Installation Manager.
  • Maintain and optimize the installation schedule to enhance site performance.
  • Exhibit professionalism and leadership on-site to represent Ipsen effectively.
  • Address challenging situations or conflicts in a calm and professional manner.
  • Lead an on-site team effectively, delegating tasks and setting priorities.
  • Timely escalate unresolved disputes to the Installation Manager.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings for customers and contractors when the Installation Manager is unavailable.
  • Collect and share competitive intelligence with the Ipsen team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in a service or contractor organization with a proven history of executing large and complex capital equipment installations.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and lead effective, diverse teams.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and leadership capabilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with rigging, millwright, pipefitting, electrical trades, closed-loop cooling systems, and welding is highly desirable for executing large-scale installations.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and protocols; OSHA 30 training is preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, customers, and vendors for successful installations.
  • Capable of identifying problems, gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read and interpret project drawings and schematics.
  • Willingness to travel up to 90% of the time, primarily domestically, with some potential for international travel.
