Key Responsibilities:
The Hall Director holds the primary responsibility for overseeing a residence hall accommodating approximately 400 to 1,700 residents.
This role involves the recruitment, training, supervision, and assessment of all undergraduate staff, working closely with a full-time Administrative Assistant and/or resident Office Assistant.
The Hall Director coordinates the administrative operations of the residence hall community, which encompasses:facility oversight, maintenance, record management, resident employment, and conduct enforcement. The position requires fostering an environment that encourages academic success and responsible decision-making among residents.
Community and resident development is facilitated through social and educational programming, advising community councils, and creating living-learning communities when applicable.
The Hall Director also provides guidance to individual residents, resident leaders, and groups, and participates in an on-call duty rotation for a larger resident population. Additionally, the Hall Director serves on various departmental and university committees.Community Oversight
- Crisis Management: Collaborate with university personnel during emergencies; respond to situations that affect residents and housing operations during disruptions or health concerns.
- On-Call Responsibilities: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with other professional staff to ensure continuous coverage.
- Policy Enforcement: Uphold and support all university and departmental regulations; assist in managing the conduct process for residents living in the hall.
- Conflict Mediation: Provide mediation and referrals for residents and staff as necessary.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate building records, submit annual reports, and adhere to all departmental deadlines.
- Academic Support: Implement initiatives aimed at enhancing resident academic success, collaborating with Living Learning Communities and academic resources.
- Liaison Activities: Establish relationships with housekeeping, maintenance, and university safety personnel to ensure a well-maintained living environment.
- Budget Management: Oversee budgets for supplies, programming, community councils, and staff development.
- Facility Management: Ensure timely reporting and resolution of facility issues, co-managing key distribution with the Administrative Assistant.
- Room Assignments: Maintain accurate occupancy data and assist with room changes and selection processes.
- Customer Relations: Address concerns from residents, parents, and university staff, providing accurate information and fostering positive development.
- Staff Supervision: Inspire and guide a team of 8-13 Resident Assistants; conduct evaluations and individual meetings to discuss goals and feedback.
- Training and Development: Lead training sessions for Residential Life and assist in developing area-specific in-services for staff.
- Programming and Advising: Support the implementation of residential programming initiatives, ensuring alignment with learning outcomes.
- Community Building: Cultivate a positive community atmosphere through innovative engagement strategies.
- Visibility: Maintain accessibility to residents and staff; serve as a role model and participate in community events.
- Advising: Identify and promote leadership opportunities for residents; provide mentorship and resources for community councils and individuals.
- Educational Programming: Ensure programs connect residents to their community and meet diverse developmental needs.
- Assist in assessment activities and retention initiatives aimed at enhancing the residential experience.
- Participate in departmental and division-wide committees to support the mission of the university.
- Build collaborative relationships with various university offices to best support residents and staff.
- Represent the university at professional events and in the community.
- Collaborate on various initiatives throughout the academic year to integrate residential life information.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
A Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field, along with experience in Residence Life. This is a live-in position.
