The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Inspector is tasked with diagnosing, repairing, and inspecting both military and civilian wheeled equipment, including light, medium, and heavy vehicles, as well as power generation and ground support apparatus. This role requires collaboration with team members to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality service delivery.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Lead and guide fellow mechanics while providing essential support to the maintenance team, ensuring high standards of customer service for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct inspections, tests, and operational assessments of wheeled equipment (both commercial and military) to evaluate serviceability and functionality.
  • Utilize automated Logistics Information Systems to maintain comprehensive equipment records and document maintenance activities, focusing on wheeled, construction, and grounding systems.
  • Perform disassembly, repair, cleaning, corrosion treatment, reassembly, and installation of components and accessories.
  • Manage the disposal of hazardous materials and waste in compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
  • Operate, clean, inspect, and service wheeled equipment as part of maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring property accountability, prevention of Foreign Object Damage, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Engage with various repair and testing equipment, including welders, torches, pressure testers, and electrical testers.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned to meet organizational and operational goals.
  • Be prepared for changes in job duties and responsibilities based on contractual obligations.

EQUIPMENT & MATERIALS USED:

  • Frequent use of basic shop tools, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and lifting devices.
  • Steel-toed footwear is mandatory. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in specific work areas.
  • PPE may include face masks, head protection, foot protection, hand protection, vision protection, and hearing protection.
  • Occasional use of computer systems and multifunction devices (MFD).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is primarily conducted in a shop setting, with potential outdoor tasks that may expose personnel to extreme weather conditions.
  • Physical demands include stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, sitting, and working in confined or awkward positions.
  • Regular exposure to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, varying humidity levels, blowing sand and dust, and working at heights.
  • A standard workweek consists of 40 hours (5 days). Flexibility for additional hours may be required based on mission needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squat for extended periods.
  • Capability to pull, push, and lift weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Function effectively in adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, and dusty environments.
Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three (3) to six (6) years of experience in wheeled equipment maintenance or a related field.
  • A valid State Driver's License with no restrictions is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is necessary, such as a birth certificate or U.S. Passport.
  • Must maintain driving privileges as required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening is mandatory.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency in servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing military and civilian wheeled power generation and ground support equipment.
  • Familiarity with electronic technical manuals is essential.
  • Working knowledge of GCSS-Army is preferred.
